10. It helps to balance our emotions

People cry when they are sad, or angry, or stressed, or for no obvious reason at all. The latter is especially true for women. And, surely, you know the “tears of joy”. Crying commands a lot of emotions helping us to find a balance and adapt to various life situations.

9. It is a good sign

Crying marks the beginning of life! You know that midwives sometimes slap babies. They do it to trigger the breathing reflex in the newborns. Slapping also starts a crying reaction. The louder it is, the better; it means the baby is healthy, and its lungs are ok. Crying is also normal in a state of shock, far better than numbness.

8. Grief relief

Crying helps people who are in grief. The sorrow of loss can be a huge emotional burden for anyone. It is acceptable to cry at funerals even for men, because there no other way to cope with a loss. Such tears are sacred: they are not a sign of weakness.

7. It is mood-lifting

When you let it gush, sobbing loudly, you inhale more air. This is one of the body’s coping mechanisms with a mood-lifting effect. Numerous spiritual practices, like yoga, recommend breathing exercises. Most of them boil down to breathing slower than usually, which opens up your lungs filling them to full capacity.

6. Pain relief

Some chemicals that our body produces when we cry, especially for a prolonged period of time, may actually help with physical pain. Crying because it hurts can be taken more literally than we imagine.

5. It fights hypertension

Crying can instantly lower your blood pressure and normalize the heart rate. You have probably heard that men are more likely to develop heart disease. Can you now guess why? Exactly! Because boys do not cry. But shedding a few tears sometimes could do them good.

4. It helps to cope with stress

Human mind and body are two interdependent systems. Emotional stress triggers off physiological reactions when the body produces chemicals to cope with mental load. But the same chemicals get us wired up. Crying, on the other hand, flushes them out. Does the stress and strain feel too much for you? Do not hold tears back.

3. Social aspect

Unless you are a cry-baby using this to manipulate people, you will find genuine sympathy. Others will instantly turn to you in the desire to comfort. Humans are emotional beings, although geeks and nerds may be a bit differently wired. But few people will judge you if you cry, whereas trying to keep a stiff upper lip makes you appear callous and unfeeling.

2. It controls anxiety

The flip side of modern progress and development is increased anxiety. A toxic boss who copes with his stresses by screaming at subordinates, the daily grind that drains your strength leaving you depleted, or at your wits’ ends…  Crying can help to relieve pent-up feelings, and then you feel renewed.

1. Crying is only human

If you can cry it means that you are human, capable of having emotions just like most normal people. Crying can heal souls.
