The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac for emergency use.
The vaccine, developed by Sinovac Life Sciences Co., Ltd. based in Beijing, is an inactivated type, like China’s Sinopharm vaccine, which was approved last month for WHO emergency use.
China has already decided to provide 10 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to the COVAX initiative to meet the urgent needs of developing countries, a concrete step to deliver on its promise to make its vaccines a global public good.
